Poll Shows Majority of Israelis Doubt Recent Military Successes

(MENAFN) A recent survey indicates that more than half of Israelis believe the country has not secured a clear victory in any conflict since October 7, 2023, according to reports citing data released by a public broadcaster.

The poll found that 57% of respondents felt Israel had not achieved success on any front during this period. In contrast, 28% believed there had been at least one victory, while 15% were unsure.

Since that date, Israel has been involved in multiple military engagements, including conflicts in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran, alongside operations in Syria, Yemen, and the occupied West Bank.

Public confidence in outcomes across these arenas appears limited. Only 17% of respondents considered operations in Syria successful, while perceptions of success dropped to 16% for both Gaza and Iran. Confidence declined further regarding Lebanon at 14%, followed by Yemen at 12% and the West Bank at 11%.

The survey also highlighted strong concerns about future security risks. A significant majority—73%—believed that the continued presence of Hamas and Hezbollah represents a serious threat and could lead to a repeat of an October 7-style attack. Meanwhile, 10% dismissed such a possibility, and 17% expressed uncertainty.

Details about the polling methodology, including the firm responsible and the sample size, were not disclosed.

On domestic political matters, the poll suggested that 56% of respondents supported pressure from US President Donald Trump on Israeli President Isaac Herzog to grant a pardon to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in an ongoing corruption case. Meanwhile, 26% opposed such external pressure, and 18% did not state a clear opinion.

Netanyahu had requested a presidential pardon on Nov. 30 without acknowledging guilt or stepping away from politics. However, under Israeli law, such a pardon requires an admission of guilt before it can be granted.
